Wikis, Blogs and Podcast Notes
For those of you who are attending my workshop, here are some documents I have found that you may want to download for yourself:
- 7 Things you should know about Wikis (Adobe file)
- Wikis in Schools (Adobe file)
- Blog Techtorial (Adobe file)
- iPod - Getting Started Guide (Adobe file)
- Podcast Techtorial
Here are some great little (and short) informatinoal videos you might enjoy:
Building your own Podcasts requires you to have a microphone for sound, and if you want to use video you will need a way to create a digital video and convert it to a proper web format.
For Audio, you may want to try “Audacity” which can be downloaded for free from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ It is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.
Of course, you can always get iTunes free from Apple at http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you want to create a Flash Video of your computer screen in action, so you can demonstrate some aspect of computing, there are some very good, but a little costly, software packages like “Camtasia“.
Since Open Source Software, IMHO, is always worth exploring, you may want to try “CamStudio” which can be downloaded for free from http://camstudio.org/ CamStudio only works in Windows but it will also convert your Digital Camera’s AVI movie files to Flash.
Most computers these days come with built-in software for creating/editing audio and/or video, so don’t forget to explore those avenues as well, before you shell out your hard-earned dollars for something else.
When you get started in your research to find what suits you, your teaching style, and your students’ learning styles, you will undoubtedly visit LOTS of websites. How does one keep track of all these sites, and access them from where you happen to be? The answer is “Social Bookmarking.” There are many places on the web that you can use to store and sort your web bookmarks and access them from any web-enabled computer.
